Rep. Roy Tells Newsmax: Congress Should Cease Funding Elite Institutions
Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas., stated in an interview with Newsmax on Wednesday that one way to address the increase of antisemitism on college campuses is to cut off funding to these institutions.
Earlier in the day, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government conducted a hearing to investigate antisemitic incidents on college campuses nationwide and how federal and university leaders are responding.
The Texas congressman suggested that Congress should leverage its financial power to compel college administrators to take action against the widespread antisemitism present in many U.S. universities.
“We need to reconsider granting them significant tax breaks. For instance, Harvard has a $50 billion endowment, a large portion of which is tax-free. U Penn has a $20 billion endowment. Why are we continuing to provide them with billions in federal grants?” he questioned during his appearance on “The Record with Greta Van Susteren.”
Roy praised the student testimonies from earlier in the day as “very insightful” in highlighting the current state of American universities.
“The key takeaway is showcasing how detached they are from mainstream American values and how they contribute to an environment where our Jewish community members do not feel safe on campus,” Roy added.
