Peter Breen Tells Newsmax: Pro-Life Activist Targeted by Biden Administration’s Weaponization

Pro-life activist Lauren Handy, who was sentenced to nearly five years in prison for protesting at a Washington, D.C., abortion clinic, has become a victim of the Biden administration’s Department of Justice, according to Peter Breen, an attorney with the Thomas More Society, which represented her in the case. Breen told Newsmax that the administration is targeting peaceful pro-life advocates like Handy instead of addressing the numerous incidents of violence and vandalism against pro-life entities.

Breen explained in an interview on Newsmax’s “Greg Kelly Reports” that Handy and her fellow protesters were engaged in civil disobedience, a tradition in America, and that similar protests have not resulted in such harsh consequences. However, due to the nature of the location being an abortion clinic, the Biden administration decided to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

Handy was charged with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE) and recently sentenced to almost five years in federal prison. Breen argued that the charges were exaggerated as Handy and her co-defendants were simply staging a sit-in, which falls under misdemeanor acts of civil disobedience.

The Thomas More Society is working to overturn Handy’s conviction and reverse the sentence, emphasizing that she does not deserve such a severe punishment for her peaceful actions. Breen highlighted Handy’s dedication to her cause and her efforts to minister to other inmates while in prison, showing her commitment to the pro-life movement.
