Bloomberg Poll Shows Support for Harris to Succeed Biden
According to a recent poll from Bloomberg News/Morning Consult, if President Joe Biden were to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris is the preferred choice of swing state voters to replace him.
Among likely Democrat voters, Harris received the most support, surpassing California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
Harris led with 45%, followed by Whitmer and Transportation Secretary Peter Buttigieg, both at 36%. Newsom came in fourth at 32%, with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore at 23% and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker at 21%.
Concerns about Biden’s handling of the economy, overseas wars, and his mental state have fueled discussions about replacing him as the election nears.
Biden’s mental acuity has been under scrutiny, with reports of verbal gaffes and physical limitations. A March poll found that 63% of U.S. adults lacked confidence in Biden’s mental capability to serve effectively as president.
While swing state voters may favor Harris, a national audience may have a different perspective. A poll in March found that 52% of registered voters disapproved of Harris’s performance, while only 36% approved.
In a hypothetical matchup, Trump led Harris 49% to 42% and Biden 48% to 44% in the Bloomberg poll of 4,962 registered voters surveyed from May 7-13, with a margin of error of plus or minus 1%.
