Texas Lieutenant Governor Patrick Accuses Trump’s New York Judge of Being ‘Completely Corrupt’
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick expressed strong criticism towards the judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial in New York, calling him “absolutely corrupt” and labeling the trial as a “show trial.”
Patrick made these comments in a four-minute video he shared on X after spending a day with President Trump at the trial.
During the trial’s recess for the Memorial Day holiday, Patrick targeted Judge Juan Merchan, starting with his ruling that limited the testimony of defense witness and election law expert Brad Smith.
“He’s doing everything in his power to help the jury find a pathway to convict the president,” Patrick stated. “The judge prevented an expert witness on campaign finance from testifying that the president did not violate any campaign finance laws.
“The president’s legal team requested the jury be informed that there was no campaign violation involved in the president’s actions. However, the judge denied this request. In fact, this corrupt judge granted almost every jury instruction requested by the Biden prosecutors and very few requested by the Trump team,” Patrick added.
Patrick’s comments were in line with those of Alan Dershowitz, a retired Harvard Law professor, who stated earlier in the week that Judge Merchan had repeatedly denied the defendant’s Sixth Amendment rights by excluding evidence that should have been presented, while allowing everything in the prosecution’s case.
Patrick condemned the trial, likening it to something one would see in a “tin-pot dictatorship in a Third World country.”
“No one could have expected this to occur in America,” Patrick remarked. “There is no crime, no evidence of wrongdoing. Yet, President Trump is being persecuted and prosecuted because his opponents know they cannot defeat him in November.”
