Is Haley’s Potential Nomination for Secretary of State a Possibility?

Last week, following a tough Republican primary battle won decisively by former President Donald Trump, former Ambassador Nikki Haley revealed her determination to prevent Joe Biden from being re-elected. She announced that she would vote for Trump in November, despite their disagreements.

This week, Haley flew directly to Israel.

Why?

It seems clear that she aims to demonstrate her support for the Israeli people.

That’s why today, she visited three Israeli communities – Kibbutz Nir Oz, the site of the Nova Musical Festival massacre near Kibbutz Re’im, and the city of Sderot – all situated along the Gaza border.

I had the privilege of accompanying her on these visits, observing her interactions, and posing several questions to her.

It was powerful to witness such a prominent American political figure engaging with, listening to, and even embracing ordinary Israelis who had directly witnessed and experienced the horrific atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th.

Her inquiries during the visits were intriguing.

She expressed empathy towards the Israelis, both personally and during a press conference in Sderot, the largest city on the Gaza border, despite the near-constant sound of IDF artillery fire at Hamas positions.

Addressing a group of reporters, Haley stated, “What occurred on October 7th was pure evil.”

She reassured the Israeli people, “We hear you, we see you, we grieve with you, and we mourn every life lost. For families with hostages, we will continue to fight until everyone is safely returned. Do not be swayed by media soundbites.”

She added, “America stands with you. The events of October 7th affected us all. This should not only concern Israelis but also Americans, as Israel is combatting America’s enemies. This issue will not be resolved through policy alone. It will only end when we acknowledge the truth. So, choose a side. I stand on the side of advocating for those who cannot speak and fighting for those who cannot defend themselves.”

Throughout her political career, Haley has consistently supported and stood with Israel.

She has visited Israel multiple times.

It is apparent that her visit this week is motivated by genuine feelings.

However, there may be another reason for the timing of her visit.

Nikki Haley may be vying for the position of Trump’s Secretary of State.

Although Trump has ruled out selecting her as his Vice Presidential running mate, there is precedent for a primary runner-up being appointed to lead the State Department.

Recall the contentious competition between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Despite the intensity of the campaign, Obama chose Clinton as his chief foreign policy spokeswoman.

Could a similar scenario unfold if Trump is re-elected?

It is a possibility.

I am not officially endorsing her for the role, as there are other strong candidates to consider. However, Haley would undoubtedly be a formidable candidate.

She previously served as Trump’s UN ambassador and performed admirably in that role. Her pro-Israel stance has earned her high regard in Israel.

The critical question remains whether she and Trump can mend their relationship and rebuild trust.

During a press conference, I asked Haley to elaborate on this matter.

“Ambassador, thank you for visiting Israel,” I began. “I represent All Israel News and TBN, the most-watched Christian television network in America. Your relationship with President Trump was incredibly strong, and together, you achieved significant accomplishments.”

I acknowledged that their relationship had been strained and sometimes personal during the campaign. I inquired about her efforts to collaborate with Trump, particularly on issues related to Israel, the Middle East, and Iran, which are of great significance. I also raised concerns about the division within the party, noting that her support in various primary states could potentially impact Trump’s chances for re-election.

“Smart politics requires setting aside personal feelings,” Haley responded. “I have always been able to separate emotions and personal matters from politics because it is essential to make sound policy decisions.”

She emphasized her commitment to specific policies, expressing support for Trump’s approach over Biden’s. Haley underscored the importance of supporting allies, holding enemies accountable, safeguarding freedom and capitalism, reducing debt, and maintaining national security.

Addressing the perceived divide between her and Trump, Haley clarified that her focus is on policy and the overall well-being of America and Israel. She reiterated the need for a strong and united front in addressing key issues.

Haley’s visit to Israel was facilitated by Member of Knesset and former Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, who accompanied her and introduced her to various Israeli individuals, including soldiers, October 7th victims, hostage families, IDF officials, and government leaders.

“I am honored to host Ambassador Nikki Haley during her visit to Israel,” Danon stated. “Her steadfast support, clarity, and dedication to combatting evil forces are truly commendable.”

“Ambassador Haley, like the resilient citizens of Israel, recognizes the necessity of perseverance and determination in the face of opposition. We are resolute in our mission to safeguard Israel’s safety and security,” Danon concluded.
