Toronto Liberal MP Advocates for Increased Security Measures for Politicians Following Vandalism Incident
A Toronto MP expresses her concern over vandalism that targeted her constituency office, calling it an “attack on democracy.”
Julie Dzerowicz, a Liberal MP, recounts how two individuals in black clothing approached her Davenport constituency office at 1 a.m. on May 28 and painted a threatening message on the windows.
Images of the office show red paint dripping around a picture of Ms. Dzerowicz in one window, with a misspelled message about Rafah in another, implying that if the Gaza Strip city is burning, “Toronto will too.”
Ms. Dzerowicz interprets this as a threat and also as a form of hate speech.
She reveals that this is not the first time her office has been vandalized and calls for more decisive action to clarify what constitutes acceptable forms of protest.
According to Ms. Dzerowicz, vandalism is wholly unacceptable.
