Pew Survey Finds 58 Percent of Americans Paying Close Attention to Presidential Election
According to the latest Pew Research Center survey, more Americans are closely following the presidential election compared to four years ago. Many express fatigue from the media’s coverage of the expected race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
The survey reveals that 58% of respondents are closely following news about the presidential candidates, with 28% not following too closely and 13% not following at all. In April 2020, only 52% said they were closely following election news, which increased to 75% in October 2020.
Republicans and GOP-leaning independents (64%) are slightly more likely than Democrats and Democrat leaners (58%) to say they are closely following this year’s election news. The survey also shows that 62% of respondents are already worn out by the extensive coverage of the campaign and candidates.
In terms of how they receive election news, 57% of Americans come across it while only 42% actively seek it out. The survey did not mention the candidates or campaigns by name and was conducted among 8,709 U.S. adults from April 8-14.
