Montreal Billionaire Robert Miller Charged with Sex Crimes Involving 10 Victims

Montreal police have apprehended billionaire Robert Miller, who is the founder of Future Electronics, on Thursday for facing charges related to sexual misconduct involving 10 individuals, many of whom were minors at the time of the alleged incidents.

During a press conference, law enforcement disclosed that the 21 reported offenses, such as sexual assault, sexual interference, and procuring a person for prostitution, occurred between 1994 and 2016.

Authorities stated that the 80-year-old Mr. Miller was taken into custody at his residence in Westmount and has been released with a pledge to appear in court on July 3.

Insp. David Shane emphasized that these charges demonstrate to victims that they can come forward at any time, and he acknowledged the assistance of media coverage in reinvigorating the investigation.

An inquiry into allegations against Mr. Miller was initially launched by the police force in 2009, but back then the province’s prosecution service opted not to pursue charges.

Mr. Miller resigned from his positions as chairman and CEO of global electronics distributor Future Electronics in February 2023, declaring that he would concentrate on safeguarding his reputation amidst reports by CBC and Radio-Canada claiming that he exchanged money, trips, and lavish gifts for sexual favors.

Prior to facing criminal charges, Mr. Miller was already entangled in legal battles defending civil lawsuits connected to the accusations.

Insp. Shane urged additional potential victims and individuals from the public with relevant information to come forward to assist their inquiry.

“The primary objective of this briefing is to renew our appeal to any victim or witness of sexual misconduct in relation to this case, or any similar case,” declared Insp. Shane. “This extensive criminal investigation is still ongoing.”

The identities of the complainants, including one who was below the age of 14 during the purported incidents, are shielded by a publication ban, as is customary in sexual assault cases. Other allegations against Mr. Miller involve sexual exploitation and engaging in sexual activity with a minor for compensation.
