Putin alleges that courts are being used against Trump
President Vladimir Putin expressed indifference towards the identity of the next U.S. president, stating that it would likely not have much impact on Moscow. However, he accused the U.S. court system of being used in a political battle against Donald Trump.
In 2022, Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, portrayed as a defensive measure against NATO expansion, has strained relations between Russia and the U.S. to their lowest point since the Cuban missile crisis of 1962.
Addressing foreign media editors at an economic forum in St. Petersburg, Putin criticized the Biden administration for its actions in Ukraine, claiming that their mistakes were undermining the U.S. political system and global leadership.
Putin mentioned that the outcome of the U.S. election holds little significance for Russia, as they are prepared to work with any elected president. He described Joe Biden as a predictable politician and stated that Russia would not interfere in U.S. domestic politics.
Regarding Trump’s presidency, Putin acknowledged that it had strained U.S.-Russia relations, and he expressed uncertainty about any potential changes if Trump were to win re-election.
While Putin did not anticipate a significant shift in U.S. policy towards Russia post-election, he left open the possibility of change if Washington prioritized its national interests.
Putin highlighted that the U.S. focus should be on strengthening the country internally and building positive international relations, rather than getting involved in conflicts like Ukraine.
The Russian leader criticized the use of the U.S. judicial system in the political rivalry against Trump, suggesting that it was ineffective and damaging to the state and political system.
