San Francisco Tech Event Nets Trump $12M in Funds
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reportedly raised $12 million on Thursday at an event hosted by two tech venture capitalists in San Francisco. The event drew Silicon Valley investors who were disenchanted with the Biden administration’s policies.
The fundraising reception and dinner were hosted by venture capitalists David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya, along with Sacks’ wife Jacqueline, at their luxurious mansion in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. The event, as seen on an invitation by Reuters, featured top tickets priced at $500,000 per couple and was sold out. Sources indicated that it raised around $12 million.
Despite the predominantly liberal climate in San Francisco, a growing number of high-profile local venture capitalists and crypto investors have shown support for Trump leading up to the November election. Attendees at the event included executives from crypto exchange Coinbase, crypto investor twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, and other crypto leaders.
During the event, Trump reportedly joked about artificial intelligence and discussed Senator Elizabeth Warren’s concerns about cryptocurrency. The crypto industry has been seeking to influence U.S. politicians amidst increased regulatory scrutiny, especially following bankruptcies at major crypto firms in 2022.
The event saw prominent figures, such as Trevor Traina and Jacob Helberg, express their support for Trump’s campaign. Helberg, who transitioned from being a Democrat to supporting Trump, highlighted various factors influencing the shift in support, including the economy, border security, and excessive regulation.
Despite recent legal challenges, Trump’s campaign has continued to gather significant donations. Major Republican donors have also shown unwavering support for Trump, pledging millions of dollars to back the first convicted felon running for U.S. president. Potential running mates for Trump, such as Ohio Senator J.D. Vance and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, were present at the event.
San Francisco remains a key fundraising hub for Democrats, with Vice President Kamala Harris recently hosting a fundraiser in the city. The upcoming election continues to be of great importance to all involved parties.
