Iranian Expats Plan Rally in Europe to Show Solidarity

The upcoming presidential election in Iran on June 28 is once again being organized by the Iranian regime, following the death of the current president, known as the ‘butcher of Tehran’ due to his involvement in mass assassinations of political opponents.

In Iran, there are no truly democratic elections, as candidates are pre-selected by the clergy elders as mandated by the spiritual leader, who is the de facto ruler of the country.

Increasingly, Iranians are ignoring the regime’s staged elections, as evidenced by the historically low turnout in the March parliamentary elections earlier this year.

Despite the lack of true democracy in Iran, the country’s organized resistance movement, the People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), is calling for a boycott of the upcoming election as a way to support regime change.

In addition, the Iranian expatriate community is planning a gathering in Berlin to support the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its designation of Maryam Rajavi as the transitional president, offering an alternative vision for a democratic future in Iran.

Ms. Rajavi’s 10-point plan for Iran’s future includes free and fair elections, separation of religion from the state, and legal protections for the rights of women and minorities, aiming to empower the Iranian people and dismantle the current clerical dictatorship.

The people of Iran have shown a strong desire for change, as seen in past protests against the regime. It is crucial for democrats around the world to support the Iranian people in their quest for democracy.

Recent statements from the British and Italian parliaments have endorsed the Iranian people’s efforts for democratic change and urged their governments to take action in support of this cause.

The upcoming Berlin rally will provide specific recommendations for how international governments can support the Iranian people’s aspirations for democracy, highlighting that regime change in Iran is achievable.

Despite the western leaders’ hesitance to confront the Iranian regime, the death of the ‘Butcher of Tehran’ and the organized boycott of the upcoming election signal a deepening political crisis for the mullahs in power.

The Iranian people have made it clear that they are ready for change and the international community must stand with them in their pursuit of democracy.
