Staggs, endorsed by Trump, sees growth in Utah Senate race

The competition among Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate seat in Utah has become tighter and more intense, with four contenders vying for the position. Trump-endorsed Riverton City Mayor Trent Staggs is gaining momentum, as indicated by recent polls.

Recent data from the Salt Lake Tribune shows that Staggs is now the closest challenger to Rep. John Curtis, who has been leading the Senate race up to the June 25 primary election.

In a poll conducted from May 22 to June 1, Staggs received 22.4% of the vote compared to Curtis’ 36.5%, based on statistics from the survey obtained by Newsmax.

Just a month prior, after the Utah GOP’s state convention, Curtis was at 41% while Staggs, who defeated Curtis in April’s state convention, was in second place with 14.5%.

Curtis has maintained his frontrunner status since December, with the winning candidate only needing to secure a plurality of the vote.

In April, Staggs garnered the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. In a post on Truth Social, Trump mentioned that “Trent Staggs is 100% MAGA, and is running to fill The Mitt Romney, a Total Loser, Seat as the next Senator from the Great State of Utah!”
