Surgeon Indicted by DOJ for Leaking Information on Trans Procedures

Dr. Eithan Haim, a surgeon at Texas Children’s Hospital who exposed gender-transition surgeries and treatments on minors, has been indicted by the Department of Justice.

The indictment includes four felony counts related to his alleged violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as reported by the National Review.

Haim anonymously provided evidence last year to journalist Christopher Rufo, revealing that Texas Children’s Hospital continued its gender-transitioning program despite claims of halting operations following Governor Greg Abbott’s directive equating such medical interventions with child abuse in 2022.

The hospital eventually halted transitioning medical practices when a state law prohibiting “gender-affirming” interventions for minors went into effect in September 2023.

U.S. marshals notified Haim at his residence about the indictment for HIPAA violations, scheduling a court appearance on June 17 for him and his legal team.

“My client is eager for the trial to present his side of the story,” said Marcella Burke, Haim’s attorney, to National Review. “I am confident that the correct decision will be reached.”

In January, Haim publicly revealed himself as a whistleblower to shield himself from possible retaliation by the DOJ and the Department of Health and Human Services. Federal prosecutors informed him last June of a criminal investigation regarding his leak of medical records, alleging the failure to redact sensitive patient information.

“After realizing the extent of corruption, I had to go public and defend myself,” Haim stated. “I had no choice but to fight back to protect my children from this conflict.”

Haim recalled the arrival of federal agents at his home as an effort to make an example out of him for challenging political ideology, denying any personal patient information in the leaked documents reviewed by Rufo before publication.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tina Ansari, leading the investigation in the Southern District of Texas, asserted that Haim had no permission to disclose minors’ medical records.
