Chicago Mayor’s Personal Grooming Costs Exceed $30,000, According to Report

According to NBC Chicago, there has been a lot of buzz around Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s extravagant personal grooming expenses.

Recent reports by the Chicago Sun-Times revealed that the mayor spent over $30,000 on hair and makeup for himself and his staff over a 15-month period, funded by his Friends of Brandon Johnson campaign.

Legal experts in Illinois have weighed in on the issue, with election lawyer Burt Odelson questioning the use of campaign funds for grooming expenses. Illinois State Board of Elections spokesman Matt Dietrich also emphasized the importance of adhering to fair market value when using such funds.

The mayor’s office defended the expenses, stating that it is common practice for high-ranking public officials to use campaign funds for grooming services. Campaign spokesman Bill Neidhart maintained that the funds were used to compensate Black and women-owned businesses for their work in preparing the mayor and his associates for public appearances.

While some view Johnson’s grooming expenses as a public relations issue, rather than a legal one, the controversy continues as Chicago gears up for the Democratic National Convention this summer.
