Rory McIlroy and ex-wife finalize divorce, embrace new beginnings | World News
Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll have ended their divorce proceedings and expressed their anticipation for a “new beginning” as a family.
Last month, McIlroy filed for divorce from his wife of seven years on the eve of the PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville.
Shortly after, the divorce proceedings were finalized in a filing in Palm Beach County, Florida – just before the US Open at Pinehurst, North Carolina, began on Thursday.
It has been ten years since McIlroy last won a major, with the last one being the PGA Championship in 2014.
In a statement to The Guardian, McIlroy confirmed that he and his wife had “settled” their differences.
The Northern Irishman stated: “Recently, there have been rumors about my personal life, which is regrettable. Responding to each rumor is pointless.
“In the past few weeks, Erica and I have come to realize that our best future is as a family together.
“Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and are excited for a fresh start.”

The couple met in 2012 when she worked for the PGA of America during the Ryder Cup at Medinah in the Chicago suburbs.
McIlroy almost missed the beginning of a match – but Stoll arranged for a police escort to help get him to the course on time.
They started dating two years later and got married in 2017. They now have one daughter named Poppy, who was born in September 2020.
