Poll Shows Biden Losing Ground in Virginia
A recent poll conducted by co/efficient revealed that President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are tied at 41% each in Virginia. This is significant as a Republican presidential candidate has not won in Virginia since George W. Bush in 2004.
According to the company’s survey of 851 likely voters, conducted on June 11-12, 12% were undecided and 7% indicated they would vote for a third-party candidate, such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., as reported by Newsweek on Friday.
The poll had a margin of error of +/- 3.36 percentage points and suggested a decrease in support for Biden in Virginia. In the 2020 election, Biden won the state with 54.15% of the vote, a margin of 10.2 percentage points over Trump.
Other polls also indicate a decline in Biden’s support in Virginia, with a May poll by Roanoke College showing a tie between Biden and Trump at 42% each.
Republican Main Street Partnership President and CEO Sarah Chamberlain told The Wall Street Journal that Virginia could potentially be a win for Republicans.
Chamberlain mentioned that while Northern Virginia is predominantly Democratic, she is not ruling out the possibility of Trump winning the state. She acknowledged that Trump’s team is making the right moves and expressed interest in seeing how it unfolds.
