Investigation: Biden’s Ghostwriter Erased Recordings

According to reports, the ghostwriter of President Joe Biden’s memoir admitted to deleting recordings of his conversations with Biden after a special counsel was appointed to investigate the president. Mark Zwonitzer, the writer, stated that he erased the recordings out of fear of being hacked, as per a partial transcript of the interview.

The conversations between Biden and Zwonitzer were crucial evidence in special counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents. One significant revelation was Biden admitting to finding classified documents about Afghanistan in his Delaware garage shortly after leaving office as vice president.

Zwonitzer disclosed in a July interview that he tried to delete the audio recordings of his conversations with Biden after Hur’s appointment in January 2023. He cited concerns about the recordings being stolen and spread widely. Despite investigators expressing skepticism about his reasons, Zwonitzer maintained that his actions were motivated by fear of being hacked and not expecting to be involved in the investigation.

Hur’s final report recommended not charging Zwonitzer, as he provided plausible and innocent explanations for deleting the recordings.
