Rory McIlroy ousted from US Open by Bryson DeChambeau in swift defeat | World News

A disheartened Rory McIlroy was captured on camera leaving the US Open without acknowledging his competitor Bryson DeChambeau after the American prevented him from securing a fifth major victory.

Despite a strong start at Pinehurst No 2 in North Carolina, the golfer from Northern Ireland suffered a dramatic collapse at the end, finishing with bogeys on three of his final four holes.

While watching from the scoring room, 35-year-old McIlroy witnessed DeChambeau make a spectacular 55-yard pitch from the sand to four feet and sink the putt on the 18th hole to secure a one-shot victory.

McIlroy was seen with his hands on his hips before leaving the room and promptly exiting the resort without speaking to the media or attending the trophy presentation.

Since his victory at the 2014 PGA Championship, McIlroy has yet to secure another major win.

McIlroy had a promising start, making four birdies in a five-hole stretch around the turn to claim a two-shot lead heading to the 14th tee.

However, the chants of “Ror-EE! Ror-EE!” ceased from the crowd on the 16th hole, where he experienced his first three-putt of the week.

On the 18th hole, McIlroy’s tee shot landed behind a well-known wiregrass bush. He managed to blast out short of the green and executed a beautiful pitch to four feet, where he missed yet again.

Meanwhile, DeChambeau successfully executed one of the most challenging shots in golf.

“I still can’t believe that up-and-down,” DeChambeau, 30, stated as he observed a replay on the video screen during the trophy presentation. “Probably the best shot of my life.”

McIlroy is set to participate in the Travelers Championship, the PGA Tour’s Signature Events, which will run from Thursday to Sunday.

The final men’s major of the year, The Open, will take place at Royal Troon from July 18-21, where DeChambeau will once again be one of the favorites before the tournament begins.
