Calgary Water Main Repairs Underway, Restrictions Expected for Several Weeks

Calgary’s mayor announces the commencement of work on June 17 to address additional problem areas on a significant water main.

Jyoti Gondek reveals that engineers and hydrologists utilized a robot last week to conduct an inspection of the pipe that ruptured 12 days ago, uncovering more “hot spots” in need of fixing.

Ms. Gondek confirms that the damaged section has been repaired, and efforts to mend the other areas might require three to five weeks.

The city declared a state of local emergency on June 15 upon the discovery of the additional issues.

Ms. Gondek reiterates her plea for Calgary’s 1.6 million residents and those in nearby communities to reduce their water consumption by 25% to prevent a water shortage.

She expresses gratitude for the support extended during this crisis from Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
