Toronto Police Investigating Rebel News Van Displaying Ad
A Rebel News-sponsored truck is currently being investigated by Toronto Police’s Hate Crime Unit for displaying ads that are deemed “Islamophobic” by the police.
The hate crimes unit is responding to complaints about the cube van with video footage of Muslims praying and a large group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators in downtown Toronto. The ad questions if the scenes resemble Yemen, Syria, or Iraq, and urges Canada to “wake up” as it declares the country is “under siege.”
Toronto Police Service (TPS) announced the investigation of the van via social media.
While the police did not confirm a specific investigation into Rebel News, TPS media advisor Devika Deonarine stated that a public report prompted the probe of the van.
“This investigation is ongoing,” she mentioned via email. “Any updates will be communicated through a release.”
Police Chief Myron Demkiw also made a statement on social media regarding the investigation.
The video ads were created by Canadians Opposed to the Occupation of our Streets and Campuses, according to Mr. Levant, showcasing activities of pro-Hamas groups in Toronto, including criminal offenses ignored by authorities and politicians.
“This specific ad demonstrates pro-Hamas groups causing disruptions in downtown Toronto,” Mr. Levant stated.
Mr. Levant mentioned other incidents in Toronto, such as attacks on the Jewish community, questioning police priorities.
