Putin exploits Biden’s fears of escalation following Crimea strike
After 852 days, Russia has been committing war crimes by intentionally targeting and killing Ukrainian civilians. Now, the Kremlin is falsely accusing Ukraine and the United States of violating the Geneva Conventions.
On Sunday, an incident occurred in Sevastopol, Russian-occupied Crimea, where at least four Russian civilians were killed by explosives. Moscow quickly blamed US-made ATACMS and vowed retaliation against the United States.
The timing and circumstances of the attack raise suspicions. It is doubtful that Ukraine would target non-military sites intentionally. Friendly fire incidents in combat are not uncommon, and it is possible that Russian air defense missiles fired by Moscow’s TOR-M2 anti-aircraft platform caused the casualties.
Russian propaganda and disinformation tactics are being used to shift blame. The White House must not fall for these tactics and must hold Russia accountable for its actions.
Putin’s motives are to undermine the Biden administration and prevent Ukraine from achieving victory. Despite Russia’s attempts to create distractions and shift the narrative, the US must stand firm and support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
The time has come for the White House to show strength and support Ukraine in its battle for freedom.
