Democrats are Considering Removing President Biden from the Ticket.
President Biden insisted Friday that he won’t drop out of the 2024 race unless “the Lord Almighty” tells him; get ready for a lot of Democrats to start publicly praying.
Not so much to God, though, as to Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and anyone else with a shot at getting through to Joe, who right now seems to be listening only to Hunter and Dr. Jill.
The party’s downballot candidates are freaking out, rightly fearing that having a manifestly unfit-for-office guy at the top of the ticket will not only hand Donald Trump the White House, but also elect a Republican House and Senate.
Obama’s top electioneer, David Axelrod, is already telling the party’s donors to close their purses to any candidate who won’t call for Biden to drop; fat cats like Abigail Disney are on board.
Sticking with Biden will kill the party’s turnout in swing states and districts; and outright Democratic civil war to oust him at the convention won’t help, either.
And every day the conversation turns on Biden’s condition is a day that Dems lose.
Why do you think Donald Trump is staying so uncharacteristically quiet?
Joe, Jill and Hunter (plus “Rasputin” Anthony Bernal, Jill’s chief adviser) figure the conversation will change thanks to this week’s NATO summit in DC; they’re fooling themselves yet again.
First off, Biden’s state will be the story of the summit, with the whole US press corps fighting for more “on background” quotes from other world leaders and their flunkies about how sadly the prez has declined.
Plus, the House comes back from its July 4 vacation, with Democratic members having gotten earfuls from grassroots voters — who wanted Biden replaced even before his debate disaster.
With Rep. Jerry Nadler joining in, the trickle of Dem reps calling on Biden to withdraw has become a steady stream; next is the flood.
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) should also be releasing his letter calling on Joe to go.
Major media and the party establishment have been covering for the president for years, even more frantically in the weeks before the debate.
The media’s oh-so-regretfully gone over to the other side; the silence from most Dem poohbahs (Veep Kamala Harris mentioned him once at her big weekend event) — and subtle signals like Pelosi’s careful concern about Joe’s “condition” — shows where they’re headed.
The question’s not if he drops, but when.
If they must, they’ll invoke the 25th Amendment to get him gone: Even the president’s friends can’t let him take the whole party down with him.
