CBS News President Resigns Amid Company Controversies Over Alleged Racist and Discriminatory Hiring Practices, Reports One America News Network

CBS News president Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews is now stepping down after a number of similar controversies related to accusations of discriminatory hiring and management practices were revealed.

The long tenured CBS exec, who was named president last August, told employees on Wednesday that she would be stepping down from her position in order to become a “senior adviser for coverage of the 2024 presidential election” over the next several months before she ultimately leaves the company.
“No journalist wants to ‘be’ the news, especially me,” Ciprian-Matthews said in a memo to staff obtained by the New York Post. “But today, I have some news of my own to share. After much consideration, I’ve decided this is the right time to step away from my current role at CBS News and begin to write my next chapter.”
She landed herself in hot water after being accused by employees of solely using her powerful position to promote minority hires while unfairly sidelining White journalists without reason at CBS News. This led to numerous employee complaints and a major internal investigation of the company in 2021.
In January, current and former employees revealed that two and a half years prior, Ciprian-Matthews was the target of a six-month human-resources investigation by CBS parent Paramount Global into accusations of discriminatory hiring and management practices.
Soon after, even more accusations came to light as well, with another employee claiming that Ciprian-Matthews supported the promotion of a Black correspondent even after she witnessed him verbally abuse a White female co-worker.
Additionally, a more recent complaint revolved around how a White candidate who had applied to work at the network said that Ciprian-Matthews told her that she would be easier to hire if she was a “different color” as she passed her over in the interview.
Ciprian-Matthews “will transition into this new role over the next few weeks, and we will share more updates soon,” said Wendy McMahon, president and CEO of CBS News’ stations and syndication operations, in a memo. A new president of CBS News was not immediately named.
The controversial “racist” president is the third CBS News exec to cycle through the network’s top position since 2021. She had been promoted when CBS News co-president Neeraj Khemlani was ousted after just a two-year run due to several HR complaints over bullying.
Meanwhile, CBS News parent company Paramount Global has agreed to merge with Skydance, a deal which will put in place a $2 billion cost cutting initiative. Paramount’s co-CEOs have signaled enacting $500 million of cuts across the company.
