Changing Garbage Bins in New York City: A Letter Campaign

The Issue: NYC residents being required to purchase city-sanctioned garbage bins, costing nearly $50 each.

It has come to our attention that the Mayor of NYC is enforcing a rule that requires residents to buy official trash bins from the city or face fines (“Talkin’ serious trash,” July 9).

While using trash cans is reasonable, why are we obligated to purchase these specific, expensive bins? Are there personal interests involved in their distribution? And who will compensate us if these bins are stolen or go missing during a storm?

If this requirement stands, let us at least have the option to choose the bins ourselves.

Upon reading The Post’s article about the mandatory purchase of new garbage pails for small building owners across the five boroughs, priced at $50 each, I was left feeling irritated.

Why are we being charged for this? When the city initiated the recycling program, they provided the bins.

It’s important to acknowledge that many people cannot afford these bins. There is also concern about the bins being stolen once put out for collection.

It seems Mayor Adams is introducing the idea of using garbage pails as if it were a brand new concept, labeling it as a garbage “revolution.”

It should be noted that standardized garbage pails are commonplace in many other municipalities. No wonder NYC has a rat problem if this is considered revolutionary.

Why am I being forced to spend money on a trash bin when the city is allocating funds for housing immigrants? I already have a trash receptacle that I use for pick up. If the new bin is an improvement, that’s great, but the city should provide them. The cost should not fall on the people.

The Issue: Karine Jean-Pierre’s belated admission that President Biden met with a Parkinson’s expert.

It seems that we cannot rely on White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre or the White House for truthful information (“WH: Doc saw Biden in Jan.,” July 10).

For the past 3  ¹/₂ years, she has been covering up and providing misleading information on behalf of the president. The public deserves to know if our president is facing any significant medical issues — and it appears that President Biden may be.

The recent scrutiny on Jean-Pierre by the White House press corps regarding President Biden’s health was disheartening (“The doctor is in . . . the logs!,” July 9).

Similarly, the mainstream media’s protection of Biden throughout his presidency is apparent.

It’s clear that the media has served as cheerleaders for the Democrats. Now that Biden’s faltering debate performance has revealed the truth, journalists seemed to have suddenly remembered their duties. What a sham.
