It’s time to repeal NY’s sanctuary-city laws as terrorists are streaming in through Biden’s open borders
Our national security is at risk, and the warning signs are evident.
Recently, The Post reported that President Biden is working to prevent migrants from Tajikistan, a hotspot for ISIS recruitment, from entering the United States. Despite this effort, hundreds have already been allowed in this year.
If Biden had secured the border, reinstated Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy, and ended catch and release, we wouldn’t be facing this crisis.
However, Biden seems unaware of the imminent dangers, analogous to a truck hurtling towards Times Square with no one at the wheel.
Former CIA Director Mike Morell and political scientist Graham Allison recently raised alarms about the high risk of terror attacks in cities like New York, drawing parallels to the vulnerabilities preceding 9/11.
Unprotected borders and inadequate information-sharing among law enforcement agencies are signaling critical issues that cannot be overlooked.
These issues played a significant role in the tragic events of 9/11, involving just 19 hijackers and the loss of 2,977 lives.
Despite these lessons, New York has shifted towards disregarding robust security measures, declaring itself a sanctuary city under former Mayors Bloomberg and de Blasio.
These policies hinder essential communication and coordination between local and federal law enforcement, directly undermining the post-9/11 security efforts established by agencies like the Department of Homeland Security and ICE.
The migrant crisis is now at our doorstep, with 2.5 million encounters at ports of entry in 2023 and potential unknown “gotaways,” creating fertile ground for terrorists seeking to infiltrate our borders, particularly New York City.
FBI Director Christopher Wray has testified about the threat posed by individuals or small groups, and a DHS report has revealed deficiencies in screening asylum seekers and noncitizens at entry points, providing potential avenues for terrorists to enter with minimal scrutiny.
The Biden administration must address these warnings seriously, and our city, a prime target for terrorist attacks, must reconsider its sanctuary-city laws that isolate law enforcement agencies from DHS resources.
City Council members, including Robert Holden, have introduced legislation to repeal sanctuary-city laws, emphasizing the importance of acting now to prevent another devastating attack.
It is crucial to take decisive action to ensure the security of our nation and city, honoring the victims of 9/11 and protecting our loved ones today.
