Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party, Denounces Alleged Assassination Attempt on Trump

Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre said he condemns the attack on former U.S. President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.

“I condemn in the strongest of terms the attempted murder of former President Trump today,” Mr. Poilievre said on X on July 13.

Several shots were fired while Mr. Trump was speaking in front of a crowd of tens of thousands of people. During the shooting, Mr. Trump grabbed his right ear, before Secret Service agents brought him down to the floor near the podium, and later took him away from the area in a vehicle.

Authorities later said that Mr. Trump is safe with a minor injury, while a rallygoer was killed in the attack. The person who allegedly shot at the president is dead as well, according to the Butler County district attorney.

“I am relieved he is safe. My prayers are with other innocent people harmed or killed by this heinous act. I am also happy that the suspected shooter is dead,” Mr. Poilievre said. “Democracy must prevail.”

As of the time of publication, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had not issued a statement. The Epoch Times has contacted the Prime Minister’s Office.

U.S. President Joe Biden said he had been briefed on the issue, and that he condemns the attack.

“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information,” Mr. Biden said in a statement.

“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

Robert F. Kennedy, who is also running for president in the upcoming election, also condemned the attack.

“Now is the time for every American who loves our country to step back from the division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family,” he said on X.

Several rally attendees told The Epoch Times and NTD that the shooter was atop a nearby barn.

The Secret Service said an investigation into the issue is ongoing.

“The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available,” the Secret Service said in a statement.
