American politics is tainted with malice and disunity – it requires a fresh start | American News

The initial inquiries revolve around the incident itself – the perpetrator, the motive, and the method. And the burning question remains: how could this have happened?

For those who have attended a Trump event and seen the tight security measures in place, it’s almost unthinkable. The individuals responsible for Donald Trump’s protection, whether Secret Service or otherwise, will face scrutiny for a breakdown in their core responsibilities.

To allow a former president, and potentially a future one, to be exposed to a sniper’s threat puts those in charge of Trump’s security under intense scrutiny, as they must justify their actions that resulted in a fatality, though not of the main target.

In the aftermath of the shooting, a witness expressed surprise to the media that such an incident hadn’t occurred sooner. This sentiment is shared in a country where political violence simmers beneath the surface.

Only time will reveal if, and how, things will change.

In a statement, President Biden condemned the attack on “Donald” and described it as “sick”, asserting that such violence has no place in America. Democratic parties temporarily halted their anti-Trump advertisements.

This conciliatory tone did not align with a social media post by Republican House member Mike Collins shortly after the assassination attempt. He suggested that the president had incited the shooting, referencing Biden’s remarks about putting Trump in a bullseye.

The House member later deleted his post, perhaps indicating a recognition that he had crossed a line, similar to the broader issue of violent rhetoric in politics. It was an isolated incident by one politician, retracted.
