Reject Cancel Culture and Other Critical Commentary on America’s Misguided Trends

Libertarian: Reject All Cancel Culture

Following the Trump shooting incident, influencers on the right have been participating in their own form of cancel culture, as pointed out by Reason’s Billy Binion. On various social media platforms, such as Facebook and X, Chaya Raichik, the person behind the Libs of TikTok accounts, has been sharing screenshots of individuals making inappropriate comments about the shooting in Bethel, PA. One individual, Darcy Waldron Pinckney, lost her job at Home Depot after Raichik publicly criticized her for her comments on the assassination attempt. While cheering for such events is unacceptable, turning a random woman into a national pariah by mobilizing millions of followers is equally wrong. It’s ironic that those leading this online mob are the same people who have condemned mob justice in the past.

Culture critic: America’s Stark Choice

Yuval Levin from The Free Press argues that the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump reflects our current political state. The bullets fired at Trump are seen as a representation of the alternative to constitutional democracy, which is violence and pain. Witnessing this alternative up close should make us repulsed by the idea and reaffirm the importance and necessity of constitutional boundaries in our politics. It is crucial to understand that political violence is not inevitable but a risky choice that we must avoid making.

From the right: The Oligarchy’s Drift From Dems

According to Joel Kotkin from Spiked, the oligarchic elite is now divided between the two presidential candidates. Trump’s donors are typically rich investors who are less accountable to shareholders, while big corporate elites have historically favored Democrats and Biden. However, Democratic Party’s shift towards anti-Zionism could alienate key backers, and Biden’s handling of economic issues is causing concern among many on Wall Street. The division among the oligarchs presents an opportunity for the rest of the country to reclaim power from a few dominant individuals.

RNC beat: Jew-Hate’s Link to ‘General Disorder’

Republicans at their convention highlighted the connection between street violence against Jews and progressives’ embrace of disorder, which they believe is crucial in combating anti-Semitism in America. The rise in anti-Semitism is viewed as a reflection of the state of affairs in the country rather than just an issue with Israel. Republicans have been addressing Jew-hatred as a domestic problem that needs to be tackled within the United States, which is seen as a positive shift for the Jewish community.

Conservative: Face Down EU Extortion

Tom Rogan from the Washington Examiner calls on the US to resist the European Union’s protectionist actions and threats. American companies, such as Elon Musk’s, are often targeted by EU regulators with excessive fines for alleged anti-competitive practices. Rogan suggests that the US should refuse to comply with these fines and consider withdrawing from the European marketplace as a response. He emphasizes the need to stand up against the EU’s attempts to extract revenue from American companies and weaken intellectual property protections.
