Democratic Party Divided on Successor for Biden in Case of Resignation as Trump Claims Sacrifice for Democracy, US News
Amid mounting pressure for Joe Biden to step down as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, the party is grappling with who could potentially replace him.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, a former competitor against Mr. Biden in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as a suitable replacement if Biden decides to withdraw.
“I am encouraged by the readiness of Vice President Kamala Harris to step up, unify the party, take on Donald Trump, and secure victory in November if President Biden chooses to step aside,” she stated in an interview with MSNBC.

Currently, thirty-six Democrats are urging President Biden to step down, although Vice President Harris expressed her support via Twitter on Saturday.
If called upon to replace Biden, Harris would make history as the party’s first female, first black, and first South Asian presidential nominee. However, not everyone within the party supports her candidacy.
Leading figures, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, advocate for an open selection process to choose a replacement, believing it would bolster the Democratic nominee in a face-off against Republican Donald Trump.
New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez cautioned her Instagram followers on Friday: “Do not assume that those calling for Biden to step down automatically support Vice President Harris. Many seek a complete overhaul of the ticket.”

Vice President Harris hit the campaign trail on Saturday as Joe Biden recuperated from COVID in isolation.
Avoiding mention of the turmoil surrounding Biden’s candidacy, Harris concentrated on delivering a positive message to her enthusiastic audience in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
“We will secure victory in this election,” asserted Harris.
“It will be challenging, but we are a determined group that understands the value of hard work.”

Meanwhile, former President Trump made a public appearance at a campaign rally for the first time since surviving an attack in Pennsylvania last week.

Initially seen with a large bandage on his right ear post-incident, Trump opted for a smaller beige bandage during Saturday’s rally.
“They keep calling me a threat to democracy,” he proclaimed to his followers.
“I ask, what have I done against democracy? Last week, I took a bullet for democracy. What have I done to undermine it?”
