Deadpool & Wolverine make history with $205m opening weekend, one of the biggest debuts ever in entertainment news
Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine earned $205m (£159.5m) at the box office during its first weekend in North America, securing a spot in the top 10 openings of all time.
The comic-book movie, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, broke the opening record for an R-rated film, where individuals under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
The previous record was held by the first Deadpool, which made $132m (£102.6m).
When combined with earnings from international markets, the film is projected to have a global opening of over $438.3m (£340m).

‘Dream’ working with Jackman
In the list of top domestic opening weekends, Deadpool & Wolverine holds the eighth position between The Avengers ($207.4m) and Black Panther ($202m), displacing Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3m) from the top 10.
Disney’s second successful movie after the animated Pixar film Inside Out 2 was released in June, earning $154.2m on its opening weekend.
These films have benefitted cinema chains like AMC Entertainment, Cineworld, and Cinemark, which struggled with a limited film lineup in 2024.

The highest domestic opening of all time still belongs to Avengers: Endgame with $357.1m.
Following it are Spider-Man: No Way Home ($260.1m), Avengers: Infinity War ($257.6m), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.9m), and Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220m).
