Gentler Weather Enables Crews to Advance in Combating Jasper Wildfires
Parks Canada officials report progress in fighting the fires in Jasper National Park.
An update on the evening of July 28 from the official X account of the park mentioned that crews were actively working on multiple fronts, including the Canadian Armed Forces addressing spot fires on the northwest side of Jasper town.
With temperatures forecasted to remain in the mid 20s this week, Jasper National Park emphasizes the importance of ongoing progress at this crucial time.
One of the key efforts underway is the installation of a 12-inch sprinkler line, nearing completion along the community fire guard, according to the park.
Last Monday, over 20,000 individuals in and around Jasper were instructed to evacuate due to rapidly spreading wildfires in the vicinity nestled within the Rocky Mountains, approximately four hours west of Edmonton.
Parks Canada estimates that 30% of the structures in Jasper have been affected by the wildfire.
