Israel has the right to defend itself against Hezbollah, says Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumed Democratic election nominee, expressed her support for Israel’s right to defend itself after a strike in southern Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold.

Last week, Harris had a tough conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza. Despite this, she emphasized the importance of finding a diplomatic solution to prevent further conflict on the Lebanon-Israel border.

Speaking to reporters before an election rally in Atlanta, Harris stated, “Israel has a right to defend itself.” She noted that Israel targeted a Hezbollah commander responsible for recent rocket attacks in the Golan Heights that resulted in the deaths of 12 children.

While acknowledging Israel’s right to self-defense against terrorist organizations like Hezbollah, Harris stressed the need for diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing attacks.

Following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race, Harris is now the presumptive Democratic nominee for November’s election. Despite speculation about her stance on Israel’s actions in Gaza, Harris affirmed her commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis and expressed her concerns to Netanyahu during their meeting.
