Discount Obama Repeats Clinton’s Failed 2016 Playbook
In June of 2016, six months before the election day, a column was written detailing how Donald Trump could defeat Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House. It explained how a mix of racial anxiety, political alienation, and over-reaching identity politics was propelling rural whites and working-class urbanites towards Trump in an act of unanticipated voter retribution.
“Fed up with the preachy do-goodism and blanket-blaming [by] the elite,” it was mentioned how Trump offered a safe space to supporters shut out from increasingly rigid definitions of ‘acceptable’ cultural conversations. Tired of being told what to say and how to think, Trump’s supporters were reclaiming their voice and publicly committing it to the ballot box.
Eight years later, the same predictions are being made as the former president could easily triumph again. The signs are all in place.
Today, as in 2016, the US is facing economic uncertainty due to the inflation under Biden, which Kamala Harris will inevitably inherit. The wokeness and identity overreach from the Obama era now extend from Hollywood to corporations and higher education. Cancel culture has become more extreme and dangerous, with some caught in its crosshairs resorting to drastic measures. Issues like transgender rights dominate the discourse, and the political divide is wider than ever before.
Things are now worse than they were in 2016, and Harris represents everything that has led to the current situation. While Hillary Clinton was well-qualified, Harris lacks the same accomplishments. The only thing she offers differently is her Asian-American heritage, which she downplays for political reasons. She is like a discounted version of Obama or Clinton, trading on identity without substance. Even Michelle and Barack Obama’s endorsement of Harris seemed lackluster.
Harris relies heavily on woke-babble in her campaign, much like Clinton did. The excessive focus on race, gender, and other identity-based support networks borders on the absurd. Criticizing Harris is met with strong opposition, and any dissent is immediately labeled as racist or sexist.
Woke culture thrives when reasonable people suppress their instincts, and it is evident that Harris is not the best choice for America at this moment. Her reliance on race and gender to legitimize her candidacy reflects an obsession with identity over achievement.
It was predicted that Clinton would lose in 2016 due to a lack of authority and authenticity in her campaign. Harris’ campaign lacks even more legitimacy and authority, offering little hope for a successful bid for the presidency.
The conditions that allowed Trump to beat Clinton have been intensified, making Harris an uncertain winner, despite her substantial campaign contributions. There is still time for her campaign to change its course, but Harris has yet to provide a clear direction.
