Eric Trump on Donald Trump after attempted assassination: ‘It instills humility’ | US News

According to Donald Trump’s son in an interview with Sky News, the momentum Kamala Harris has in the campaign is due to the media putting her on an artificial pedestal.

During a comprehensive discussion at the Trump International Scotland golf course near Aberdeen, Eric Trump also addressed the recent assassination attempt on his father and defended JD Vance as the choice for vice president.

Regarding the momentum in the race, Eric Trump stated: “Well, it depends on how you define momentum. Is it within the country, among the people? No, the momentum does not belong to Kamala Harris.

“Suddenly, she’s receiving praise from the media. Just a few weeks ago, they were ridiculing her, and now she’s being celebrated as a political savior. It’s quite disingenuous, the whole scenario.

“I believe that the mainstream media in the United States has artificially elevated her status, much like they did with Joe Biden.”

Reflecting on the assassination attempt that he witnessed live on TV, Eric Trump shared his thoughts: “So I had my kids in my lap, and my wife was in the room, and that’s when we heard the shots.

“You think the worst. It’s never good when you have blood coming out the side of your ear. In life, that’s not a good sign. I mean, the likelihood of a bullet grazing an ear is statistically improbable.

“That day was just a hair’s breadth away from being very different. Not just for me, my family, or the kids on my lap, but also for the entire western world, I truly mean that.”

When asked about how the shooting incident had impacted his father, Eric Trump responded: “I believe it instills a sense of humility in a person, without a doubt.”

He defended Donald Trump’s persistent combative approach.

“I think it probably puts into perspective what truly matters in life. Yet, at the same time, he steps back on stage and what does he do? You know, ‘fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight’ – and I believe that has empowered many people in the United States.”

Eric Trump speaks days after assassination attempt on his father

When questioned about the potential of provocative language like “fight, fight, fight” contributing to further division in such a contentious environment, he retorted: “That cannot be a serious question.”

“I mean, the man just had a bullet graze his ear. And you want to talk about uniting divisions? I mean, with all due respect, they just aimed a shot at him… they attempted to end his life, to remove him from all our lives. They attempted to alter US history.”

He added: “They went to great lengths to eliminate him. They tried to tarnish his reputation, ruin his family, break apart his family, bankrupt him, incarcerate him, and then they attempted to kill him.”

When probed about seemingly conflating legal proceedings against him with the assassination attempt by a lone gunman, Eric Trump stated: “I highly doubt the individual who tried to shoot him in the head was a fervent Republican, to say the least. But no, he’s a lunatic. Undoubtedly, he’s a lunatic.”

Turning the dangerous rhetoric back on the Democratic Party, he said: “Two days before my father had a bullet skim his ear, Joe Biden put out a tweet suggesting we should target Donald Trump.”

Eric Trump, aged 40, is Donald Trump’s third child and serves as the executive vice president of The Trump Organization. He has played a pivotal role in his father’s bid to reclaim the presidency.

He dismissed his father’s recent comments questioning Kamala Harris’s heritage.

Donald Trump made false claims that the vice president and Democratic nominee had shifted her focus to her Asian-American background until “she became a black person.”

“I only discovered she was black a few years ago when she suddenly identified as black and now wants to be acknowledged as black,” Trump senior stated at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago.

“So I don’t know – Is she Indian? Or is she black?”

In response, Eric Trump remarked: “I don’t know what Kamala is. What I do know is that she is inept and has performed badly.”

Commenting on Donald Trump’s decision to debate Kamala Harris on Fox News in September, Eric questioned the purpose of the debate process.

“Sometimes I question, honestly, if he should. It’s a farce. He debates Joe, and then suddenly, you know, Joe performs so poorly that he drops out of the race. If he debates Kamala and she does a terrible job, as she will, because again, she has not accomplished anything, her policies are dreadful, and frankly, she is not known for her debating skills, are they just going to replace her?”

He reiterated his support for his father’s vice presidential pick, JD Vance, describing him as “an incredible individual.”

Recently, comments from Mr. Vance dating back to 2021 surfaced where he had criticized the country’s leadership. Eric Trump responded by saying: “I’m not aware of the context of that comment, but do I believe there are irrational individuals in this country? Certainly. However, I have no knowledge of the comment. What I do know is that JD would make an excellent vice president, and I am confident that we will emerge victorious on November 5th.”
