Storm Debby causes catastrophic flooding in parts of US, resulting in tragic deaths of six children
At least six people, including children, have died due to catastrophic flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debby in parts of the US.
Debby initially made landfall as a category 1 hurricane along the Gulf Coast of Florida before weakening to a tropical storm.
Coastal areas like Savannah in Georgia and Charleston in South Carolina were hit with heavy rains, prompting flood warnings on Monday.
Mayor Van Johnson of Savannah advised residents to “hunker down” and warned of rough conditions ahead.

Experts have warned of more severe weather as the storm system stalls over the southeast US this week.
Northern Florida, along with coastal regions in Georgia and South Carolina, are preparing for heavy rainfall and flooding, with some areas expected to receive up to 30 inches of rain.
The Debby storm system could bring record rainfall to the region in the coming days.

Florida experienced heavy rainfall on Monday, leading to the rescue of around 500 people from flooded homes in Sarasota.
Over $1m (£782k) of cocaine washed up on a Florida Keys beach during the storm, and a large sinkhole appeared in Hillsborough County due to the downpour.
