Calgary Builders Seek Collaboration with City to Minimize Impact of New Water Restrictions

Builders in Calgary express gratitude for the city’s proactive approach in informing them about an upcoming water shutdown. This advance notice is helping them navigate through a challenging summer that has resulted in significant financial losses.

The Calgary Construction Association is collaborating with the city to find ways to minimize the impact of the impending water restrictions, scheduled to commence on August 26, which is less than three weeks away.

Bill Black, the president of the association, highlights how municipal water restrictions have disrupted concrete pouring schedules and how municipal fire bans have caused delays in welding schedules, leading to revenue loss.

Just as residents in Calgary and nearby areas were adjusting to the initial round of voluntary and mandatory water restrictions, a new ban was announced recently.

The original restrictions were implemented following a water main break on the northside in early June.

Mayor Jyoti Gondek reveals that further tests on the pipe indicate additional problem areas that need fixing in September, prompting the reinstatement of restrictions.
