Tragic Plane Crash in Brazil Claims Lives of 61 Passengers

The airline VOEPASS reported that a total of 61 individuals were on board a plane that tragically crashed near Sao Paulo, Brazil, resulting in the loss of all lives on board.

The airline provided details indicating that the aircraft, an ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop, was en route to Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos international airport with 57 passengers and 4 crew members when it crashed in Vinhedo. Though a previous statement mentioned 58 passengers, the current manifest includes all 61 individuals. The airline expressed deep sorrow over the incident and highlighted their focus on providing support to the families of the victims.

Emergency response teams including firefighters, military police, and civil defense authorities swiftly responded to the crash site in Vinhedo, as reported by the government in a statement on their website.

Video footage shared online captured the plane spiraling downwards before a large explosion and black smoke were witnessed post-crash.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, at an event in southern Brazil, honored a moment of silence to commemorate the tragic news with the attendees.

Reports from the City of Vinhedo confirmed that all passengers on the crashed plane perished in the incident. Although the aircraft went down near a residential area, there were no casualties reported on the ground.

Flight data from Flightradar24 indicated that the ATR-72-500 turboprop passenger jet, operated by Voepass airline, was carrying 62 individuals and lost signal en route from Cascavel to Sao Paulo around 1:30 p.m. local time.

An investigation by Brazil’s Federal Police has commenced, with specialized teams focusing on plane crash analysis and victim identification to provide necessary support.
