Germany Issues Arrest Warrant for Suspect in Nord Stream Explosions Case in June
Authorities stated that a Ukrainian suspect managed to cross the Polish border because German authorities did not have him listed in a database of wanted persons.
An arrest warrant related to the 2022 Nord Stream pipelines explosions was issued by German authorities in June, as confirmed by the Polish National Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Reports from German newspapers, SZ, and Die Zeit, alongside ARD broadcaster, revealed that an European Arrest Warrant was issued for a Ukrainian diving instructor known as “Volodymyr Z,” allegedly involved in the Nord Stream gas pipelines explosions.
A spokesperson for the Polish National Public Prosecutor’s Office mentioned that despite the European Arrest Warrant sent by German authorities, the suspect, Volodymyr Z, was not detained because he was not included in the wanted persons database, allowing him to exit Poland and cross the Polish-Ukrainian border.
The rupturing of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in September 2022 caused significant environmental damage, yet the individuals responsible remain unidentified.
According to investigations by Danish, German, and Swedish authorities, the blasts that damaged the pipelines were deliberate and caused by explosives.
Recent statements from political commentators and U.N. representatives suggest differing views on the impact and perpetrators of the Nord Stream pipelines destruction, highlighting tensions between Ukraine, Russia, and European nations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was contacted for further information on the matter.
