Wholesale Sales in June Decrease by 0.6%, According to Statistics Canada


According to Statistics Canada, wholesale sales, excluding petroleum, petroleum products, other hydrocarbons, oilseed, and grain, decreased by 0.6 percent to $82.4 billion in June.

The agency reported that sales declined in five out of seven subsectors.

Sales in the motor vehicle, motor vehicle parts, and accessories subsector dropped by 2.6 percent to $14.2 billion, with motor vehicle merchant wholesalers category falling by 2.7 percent to $11.5 billion.

The machinery, equipment, and supplies subsector also saw a decrease of 0.5 percent to $17.9 billion in June.

In terms of volume, wholesale sales decreased by 0.9 percent in June.

Statistics Canada began including oilseed, grain, petroleum, and petroleum products subsectors in wholesale trade analysis last year, but the data is not included in monthly analysis until more historical data is available.
