Trump requests postponement of ‘hush money’ sentencing until after US election, seeks judge’s approval
Donald Trump is requesting the judge in his New York hush money criminal case to postpone his sentencing until after the November presidential election.
Trump was found guilty on 30 May of altering business records to hide his former lawyer Michael Cohen’s $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
The payment was made to silence her about an alleged 2006 sexual encounter until after the 2016 election, in which Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Trump denies any sexual involvement with Ms. Daniels and intends to appeal the conviction post-sentencing.
Prosecutors claim the payment was part of an illegal plan to influence the election.
