Chicago Retains Title of America’s Murder Capital for 12th Consecutive Year, Reports One America News Network

As the Democratic National Convention (DNC) kicked off on Monday from Chicago, the Windy City was just given the disturbing title of America’s murder capital for the 12th year running in 2023.

Wirepoints.org revealed the statistics on Monday, showing at least 617 people were murdered in Chicago in 2023, compared to 416 killed 10 years ago in 2013.
The murder numbers put Chicago ahead of every city in America for the 12th year in a row, topping Philadelphia, which had 408 murders last year, and New York City’s 386 homicides.
Despite New York City’s population being three times bigger than Chicago, the Big Apple had almost 40% fewer murders last year.
The murder rate for the city is up 24% from 2019, before COVID-19 destroyed cities across the U.S., Wirepoints found.
Furthermore, the data revealed that assault, battery, violent robbery, sexual assault, also collectively rose in the Windy City by 11.5% in 2023, which makes it Chicago’s most violent year in a decade with an 18% increase since 2013, according to the Illinois Policy Institute.
Out of almost 30,000 violent crimes reported in Chicago in 2023, there were just over 3,000 arrests, which is a 33% drop in the arrest rate compared to 10 years ago, according to IPI findings which looked at official City of Chicago data.
A majority of people have placed the blame on Illinois’ George Soros-backed, progressive State Attorney for Cook County, Kimberly Foxx.
Since taking over in 2016, Foxx has emphasized the burden of proof required to hold criminals until their actual trial, which results in violent offenders being let back out on the streets to possibly cause more chaos.
Additionally, she has raised the amount of felony theft from $300 in value to $1,000, enabling crimes like shoplifting and robberies to increase without criminals facing consequences.
The policies also caused Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Jim Murphy to retire after 25 years in 2022.
However, Foxx has said she does not plan to run for re-election in 2024.
Other crime has increased as well in the Windy City. Gun assaults have increased almost two-thirds, with 735 reported as of June 2024, compared to 480 during the same period in 2019, the Council on Criminal Justice’s Mid-Year Crime Report found.
Vehicle theft has increased by a staggering 160% compared to 2019, with 20,013 incidents reported as of June 2024. Meanwhile, there were 773 reports of vehicle theft in the first six months of pre-pandemic 2019.
