The Department of Justice (DOJ) stated in July 2013 that it was conducting an investigation into the state of the jail in Fulton County, Georgia. This investigation was initiated in response to reports of violence, worsening conditions, and the tragic death of an inmate in 2022 who was found covered in lice and feces.
