Biden should view ‘Gold Bar Bob’ Menendez pardon bid as a direct affront to his integrity

Senator Bob Menendez, who recently resigned from his Senate seat and abandoned his independent bid to reclaim it, is reportedly seeking a presidential pardon according to sources.

This move is seen as utterly despicable, as it could potentially help the Democratic party retain the seat. Even though Menendez has been a reliable Democratic vote for years, it is not justified for President Biden to consider granting him a pardon for his criminal actions.

Menendez was convicted on 16 federal counts of bribery and corruption, where he exploited his political power for personal gain. He accepted bribes in the form of cash, gold, luxury gifts, and even secured a no-show job for his wife in exchange for favors.

During the trial, Menendez’s defense claimed that his actions were due to “intergenerational trauma” stemming from his parents’ escape from Cuba and his wife’s family’s tradition of giving precious metals as gifts.

His boldness in seeking a pardon is as audacious as his previous actions.

President Biden, who no longer has to worry about facing voters again, should prioritize his duty and legacy. Rejecting Menendez’s pardon plea and ensuring that he faces full accountability for his crimes would serve justice and uphold the integrity of the legal system.
