Kamala Harris presents election as a battle for America’s future, warns of Trump’s ‘chaos and calamity’ | US News

Kamala Harris has unveiled her strategy to defeat Donald Trump and secure another four years for the Democrats in the White House.

The US vice president officially accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) held in Chicago.

She made her entrance to the sound of her campaign anthem “Freedom” by Beyonce, although rumors of Beyonce performing were inaccurate.

In her address, Ms Harris reflected on her improbable journey to becoming the party’s candidate, stating, “I’m no stranger to unlikely journeys.”

Throughout her speech, she outlined policy proposals such as a middle-class tax cut for over 100 million Americans, legislation to protect reproductive rights, and reforms to the immigration system.

Donald Trump, as promised, responded live on his Truth Social website, hurling personal insults like “Comrade Kamala Harris” and attacking her government’s performance on crime, the economy, and immigration.

Meanwhile, Ms Harris criticized Trump’s presidency as “chaos and calamity” and asserted that “We are not going back!”

Addressing the global struggle between democracy and tyranny, Ms Harris warned that tyrants like Kim-Jong-Un favor Trump due to his susceptibility to manipulation.

She called for a hostage deal and ceasefire in Gaza amidst protests outside the DNC linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

While supporting Israel’s right to self-defense, she also acknowledged the plight of Palestinians and their right to self-determination.

Pink performed her protest song “What About Us” alongside her 12-year-old daughter.

Ms Harris’s speech concluded a four-day effort by the Democrats to appeal to voters, following a swift presidential campaign launch after Mr Biden stepped down from the race.

Speaking to delegates, she emphasized, “With this election, our nation has a precious, fleeting opportunity to move past the bitterness, cynicism, and divisive struggles of the past.”

In contrast, the Trump campaign argues that voters seek a fresh start from the Biden-Harris administration and the previous four years.
