RBC Unveils Reasons for Terminating Former CFO and Employee in Legal Documents

Royal Bank of Canada has disclosed in court documents the reasons for terminating its former CFO and another employee due to an alleged intimate relationship causing conflicts of interest.

In the filings submitted on two separate occasions, Canada’s largest bank presents significant evidence supporting the dismissal of former CFO Nadine Ahn and Ken Mason, indicating a breach of company policy.

RBC responded to lawsuits initiated by Ahn and Mason in August, where they sought substantial compensation for wrongful termination.

In their legal action, Ahn and Mason denied claims of a romantic involvement or Ahn leveraging her position to benefit Mason’s career, asserting that the accusations were unfounded and lacked evidence.

RBC conducted an investigation following an anonymous whistleblower’s report, citing observations of the two individuals kissing and hugging at the Fairmont Royal York hotel in downtown Toronto.

The investigation, supported by various evidence, revealed a high volume of exchanged messages, including plans for anniversary celebrations, the use of endearing terms, and expressions of love between Ahn and Mason.
