Number of Uncontained Wildfires in BC Decreases, with Just Over 40 Blazes Still Burning
The decline in the number of out-of-control wildfires in British Columbia continues as a result of a cold front bringing rain and cooler temperatures to many areas.
Currently, there are around 280 active fires in the province, with just over 40 of them classified as burning out of control, which is a decrease from over 100 such fires last week.
None of the current fires are labeled as “wildfires of note,” indicating they are not highly visible or posing a threat to people or infrastructure.
Government officials in B.C. are scheduled to provide an update on the wildfire and drought situation later today.
Campfire bans are being lifted in several regions starting at noon. However, other forms of open burning remain prohibited in most areas. The BC Wildfire Service is reminding people to remain vigilant in controlling their campfires.
