Emergency Meeting Called by Opposition Group BC United Following Announcement of ‘Significant Declaration’ by BC Conservatives

A BC United legislator has called an emergency meeting of the party caucus to discuss the future of British Columbia’s official Opposition, less than eight weeks before the provincial election.

Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier said he has been unsuccessful in reaching Leader Kevin Falcon amidst reports of the party folding. Meanwhile, the rival BC Conservative Party announced that Leader John Rustad will make a “major statement” about the election at 2:40 p.m.

Bernier stated that he called the meeting because there is clearly something happening, although he could not specify exactly what. He mentioned that his phone has been inundated with calls from worried staff and other MLAs.

The BC Conservatives have significantly outperformed BC United in recent polls, casting doubt on the future of the official Opposition as the right-of-center representative.

Previous attempts by the parties to form an alliance to challenge the governing New Democrats have ended in failure.

Premier David Eby expressed indifference towards which party he competes against, as both are expected to reduce essential services for British Columbians.
