Government Seeks Bidders for £15 Million Contract for Illegal Immigrant Reintegration Programme

Returnees will be provided with support to reintegrate into their home countries, with their reintegration outcomes being monitored and evaluated.

The government has announced a £15 million contract for a returns program aimed at illegal immigrants being sent back to their home countries.

Successful bidders will support the Home Office in addressing illegal immigration and removals by offering “reintegration support” for individuals being repatriated, which includes arranging temporary accommodation and assisting in finding employment.

The identified destinations are Albania, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Iraq, Jamaica, Nigeria, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.

The Home Office is seeking bids from charitable and non-profit organizations in the voluntary and community sectors, both in the UK and internationally.

The contract will commence on April 1, 2025, and will span three financial years, with an annual budget of £5,000,000.

The notice was released following an announcement by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper regarding the increase in removals of failed asylum seekers and illegal immigrants, coinciding with the establishment of the Border Security Command to address illegal immigration.

Reintegration Support

Some of the responsibilities that successful bidders will have to handle include offering “cash assistance” to meet the immediate needs of returnees, providing care packages and food, arranging temporary accommodation for up to five nights upon arrival, and facilitating transportation to their onward destination within the country.

Contractors will also assist returnees with long-term reintegration in their home country, including help with official documentation, family reunification services, job placement, access to training or further education, and support in establishing a business.

Service providers will be involved in monitoring and evaluating the reintegration outcomes of the individuals returning, as stated by the Home Office.
