Netanyahu Stands Firm on Hostages Despite Mass Protests
The head of Hamas’ armed wing has issued new instructions to the remaining hostages’ captors in case Israeli forces approach them.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stood firm against political pressure to negotiate with Hamas for the hostages. He emphasized the need for the Israeli military to maintain control of the bordering territory with Egypt to prevent weapon smuggling into Gaza.
Netanyahu stressed the importance of the Philadelphi corridor as a means to prevent Hamas from replenishing its arsenal through tunnels underneath it.
He stated, “This is the oxygen of Hamas.”
Protesters are advocating for a ceasefire agreement to secure the release of the remaining hostages.
Regarding the Philadelphi corridor, Netanyahu insisted on its non-negotiable status, citing IDF’s discovery of tunnels utilized by Hamas for weapon smuggling.
‘Axis Of Evil’
During a press conference in Jerusalem, Netanyahu emphasized the necessity for Israel to control the Philadelphi corridor, despite Hamas’ opposition.
Discussions between Israel and Hamas concerning the hostages’ return are linked to the potential release of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
Hamas seeks a permanent ceasefire leading to the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, while Netanyahu maintains that a military defeat of Hamas is crucial for peace restoration.
The public opinion in Israel is divided on the issue.
Netanyahu’s approach has been criticized by U.S. President Joe Biden, who believes more efforts are required to secure a hostage deal.
Netanyahu Refuses More Concessions
Netanyahu firmly refused to make concessions following the recovery of six hostages’ bodies in Rafah, emphasizing that he won’t negotiate with murderers.
He expressed, “And now after this we’re asked to show seriousness? We’re asked to make concessions? What message does this send Hamas? It says, kill more hostages.”
On Monday, Abu Ubaida of Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades revealed new instructions for the hostage guardians if Israeli forces approach their locations.
Ubaida held Israel responsible for the deaths of the six hostages, emphasizing the consequences of Netanyahu’s approach on the remaining captives.
He warned, “Their families must choose whether they want them dead or alive.”
