BC United Will Continue to Run Candidates in Order to Preserve Party Name, Despite Pausing Campaign

British Columbia’s Official Opposition BC United party now states that it will field some candidates in the upcoming Oct. 19 election, despite pausing its campaign last week to throw its support behind the B.C. Conservative Party.

In a letter to party members, it is mentioned that despite the pause last week, “we plan on running a select number of candidates” in the fall election.

The letter explains that this is crucial to ensure that BC United, previously known as the B.C. Liberal Party, remains a registered political party with Elections BC.

BC United has not specified the ridings in which the party will run candidates or the exact number of candidates seeking election.

Adam Wilson, Communications Director for BC United, stated in a release that running some candidates is essential to safeguard the party name for future elections.

BC United Leader Kevin Falcon previously announced that he would withdraw the party’s candidate nominations and instead encourage supporting the Conservatives to prevent a split vote that could aid the New Democrats in winning re-election.
